Vol 2, No 34

The Annual General Membership Meeting and Conference of the American Wagyu Association is the breeds premier event each year bringing together Wagyu Breeders and enthusiasts from across the country and globe.

The AGM will bring the membership up to date regarding the health and progress of your association. And it’s been a GREAT year for the Wagyu breed.

For this year’s conference, as in years past, we have reached out to some of the most respected individuals in their respective fields to present educational and informative information on several topics that effects our business of raising and marketing Wagyu genetics and Wagyu beef.

Every year we have several AWA members and business sponsors for our AGM & Conference. Their financial support of the AWA is an important part for the success of the Annual Conference and programs of the American Wagyu Association. These sponsors benefit you the members regarding marketing initiatives, research, and education. You’ll be hearing more about those as we get closer to the conference.

There is still time to be a sponsor of the Conference and to place an advertisement in the conference program, the premier publication for the American Wagyu Association. See more information below regarding these opportunities.

Also, be sure to complete early registration by August 23, 2021 for the conference.

Our featured speaker this week for the AGM & Conference is Dr. Bob Delmore, Professor of Animal Sciences at Colorado State University.

Dr. Bob Delmore is a professor in the Department of Animal Sciences at Colorado State University. He teaches courses in Meat Science, Meat Processing and Food Safety. He is also a member of the Center for Meat Safety & Quality conducting research to address national and global issues. He recently oversaw design and construction of the JBS Global Food Innovation Center In Honor of Gary and Kay Smith at Colorado State University.

In 2016, Delmore was recognized by the National Provisioner magazine and named to their list of “25 Future Icons of the Meat Industry.”

Delmore spent 9 years in the Animal Science Department at Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo. In addition to teaching courses, Bob oversaw the University processing facilities and was instrumental in the design and construction of a new Meat Processing Center.

Dr. Delmore was formerly the Vice President of Technical Services at Clougherty Packing Company (Farmer John).

Dr. Delmore received a Bachelor of Science degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (1991) in Food Science, earned a master’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (1993) and received a Ph.D. from Colorado State University (1998).

Bob and his wife Dr. Lynn Graves Delmore, also a well-regarded meat scientist, live in Wellington CO, with their two daughters Ainsley and Tessa.

Steps to Submitting Performance Data – #12
Inputting Weaning Data for Calves Part 5 (Click on screenshot thumbnail to enlarge)

Once all weaning information has been entered, click the ‘Validate’ button located on either the bottom left-hand or right-hand side of your table. This will check the information entered to make sure that there is nothing that is a required field that was left blank or any other errors.

An example of some errors that may appear are as follows:

Invalid Weaning Date: Entered Weaning Date either prior to birth date of animal, is missing, or entered date is after current date.

Invalid weight: Weaning weight entered exceeds valid measurement range

After resolving any errors, click the ‘Validate’ button again to update the information. If no further errors appear, the ‘Commit to Registry’ button should now become available. By clicking this, the weaning information will be added to the animal’s record. You will be redirected to a summary of the information you had entered.

When viewing the animal in your herd list, the weaning date will be listed under the ‘Wean’ column. The weaning information can also be found under the Performance tab of the Animal Detail Screen (click ‘View’ button to right of the animal when viewing herd list, and click ‘Performance’ tab).
