Helpful Links
Every week at the bottom of this newsletter I include a list of helpful website links that include: Stockmanship & Stewardship, Beef Quality Assurance, Beef Improvement Federation, Ultrasound Technicians, Masters of Beef Advocacy, and the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety.

Each one of these links contains valuable educational information for those of us in the business of livestock management and the production of beef. This week I’m going to include another exceptional informative link. This website includes written articles and webinars by some of the most recognized experts in the livestock community.

Beef Cattle Community
The Beef Cattle Clearinghouse Community of Practice (CoP) is a national website whose target audiences are producers, extension educators, and clientele with beef cattle interest. The goal of the CoP is to provide on-demand access to unbiased, research-based information via the Internet. This national effort allows for expertise to engage with clientele using the Beef Cattle Clearinghouse website. Beef cattle production systems vary tremendously across the United States due to the wide variety of resources available. Input into the Beef Cattle Clearinghouse website from a large number of faculty members from universities throughout the United States is imperative for the success of this educational effort.

The website functionalities consist of:

Cattle Questions (FAQs): Questions developed and answered by experts.

Beef Pros (Ask the Expert): Visitors can ask a question that will be answered by a specialist.

Beef Trains (Learning Modules): Learning modules are online learning opportunities that teach management techniques to producers that influence their profit potential.

Beef Tips (Timely Topics or articles): These are short, concise articles on current issues and management strategies to address key issues.
Complete Animal Reporting (CAR) Enrollments
Members have been busy updating and enrolling their active females. Inventory based registry systems like the AWAs Complete Animal Recording (CAR) program functions around the premise of the collection and reporting on an annual basis; the production history of every cow in the herd and performance of every calf in the herd raised through weaning.

CAR Enrollments must be completed and saved online through DigitalBeef. More information on the CAR Program is available on the AWA website or please feel free to call the AWA office, the staff here will be happy to help you any way we can.

Tips from the Staff – Membership Renewal
Martha Patterson, Herdbook admin and office manager here at the AWA has some tips for renewing your membership.

As members are getting on with the business of recording, DNA testing, registering, or transferring their animals they may become aware that they need to renew their membership prior to any new work being submitted. Then the question comes up, “how do I renew my membership?”

The process is simple. Follow these steps and you will receive an invoice for your 2021 membership
  1. Login to your DigitalBeef account. If you have trouble with this step be sure to call the office.
  2. When your General Profile Information page displays in the center of the screen, look on the right-hand side and you will see “Membership Ends: 12/31/2020” and next to that is a “Renew” button. EXAMPLE
  3. Click the renew button. A message will display asking you to agree to follow the AWA rules. Please click on it.
  4. Even though your Account Balance does not change at this moment, a work order will be created and an invoice for your membership will be sent to you on the next business day via your email.
Remember that if at any point you have questions please do not hesitate to call the office. We are pleased to help in any way we can. (208) 262-8100.
