Tips from the Staff
Lauren Merry, Registrar and Member Services here at the AWA has some tips when enrolling CAR females.

If you do not see a particular female listed under the Enrollment Selections tab, it may be due to one of the following:
  • Female may be unregistered. Registration for the animal would need to be finalized in order for her to meet CAR eligibility requirements before enrolling.
  • A registered female may be under 2 years of age by the start of the enrollment season. The breeding record will need to be input first if she was bred prior to this age. Once added, she should display in the animal list under the Enrollment Selections tab.
  • Registered females may have been enrolled in a prior season (Fall of previous year for example and may not show in list for Spring enrollment of following year).
How to add a breeding record:
  • Bring up your active herd list on the main General Profile Information page.
  • Select the gray ‘View’ button to the right of a female that you are needing to enter a breeding record. This will bring up her Animal Detail Screen.
  • Select the Breeding tab towards the middle of the Animal Detail Screen.
  • If the female was AI’d, enter registration number of AI bull, and date of AI in the table on the left. Click ‘Add’ to record.
  • If the female was pasture exposed, enter registration number of bull, and pasture exposure start date, and end date (if applicable) in the table on the right. Click ‘Add’ to record.
  • If utilizing Semen or Embryo Inventory features under Herd Mgmt: Breeding, select ‘Record Use’ for straw used or embryo transferred. Enter registration number of the female bred by AI or used as recipient dam.
Please contact the office if you have any questions.

Wagyu National Cattle Evaluation
I mentioned in my last Newsletter of 2020 that the American Wagyu Association had completed the first genetic evaluation for the American Wagyu Association. We are in the process of summarizing the data and working with DigitalBeef to publish the EPD.  This has taken a few weeks working with DigitalBeef getting the necessary formats in place. We are very close and finishing up a few things. I anticipate that EPD will be published early next week.  We will get out a special feature of the Newsletter when the EPD are released!

Whether you’re interested in something for yourself or a gift for your customers, we have several items to choose from. With each purchase you are helping support your association and proudly support this great Wagyu breed.wagyu.org/consumers/shopwagyu
