The first genetic evaluation for the American Wagyu Association has been completed and Expected Progeny Differences (EPD) are now available.

Published EPD traits include Birth Weight, Weaning Weight, Yearling Weight, and Maternal Milk are available on DigitalBeef.

This is an important first step in the process of a wider range of EPD for the Wagyu breed. As we continue to work with breeders on our carcass project in addition to breeders reporting data on other traits such as calving ease, disposition, fertility, etc. we can further advance the number of traits EPD can be computed for.

I’ve already had several members contact me asking how to submit carcass data to the AWA.  Many members are harvesting Wagyu cattle and have carcass data that could be useful to the AWA to move forward to compute carcass EPD!
Trait descriptions, how to read the EPD, information on accuracy, percentile rank tables and guidelines for the publication of EPD are all available, simply follow this link.

For more information on collecting and reporting performance information to the AWA please refer to the Wagyu Performance Guidelines on the AWA website or call the AWA office.

Additionally, if you have any question about the published EPD please contact the AWA.

NBCA Beef Advocacy

Congratulations to our own Martha Patterson for joining over 15,000 members of the beef community in completing this advocacy program! The Masters of Beef Advocacy (MBA) course consists of five lessons in beef advocacy addressing environmental sustainability, beef nutrition, animal welfare and beef safety while taking advocates through the beef lifecycle, from pasture to plate.

Martha has been with the AWA for 9½ years. She has held almost every position at the Association and is now our Office Manager and Herdbook Administrator.  In addition to this certificate of completion, she has a Bachelor’s Degree Liberal Studies with a concentration in Math & Science, from San Diego State University.

Whether you’re interested in something for yourself or a gift for your customers, we have several items to choose from. With each purchase you are helping support your association and proudly support this great Wagyu breed.wagyu.org/consumers/shopwagyu
