Vol 2, No 29

We are excited about the upcoming AGM & Conference, September 23-25, 2021, Fort Collins, CO.

The Department of Animal Science at Colorado State and their faculty have been a great help in organizing this year’s conference. Several members of the CSU Animal Science faculty will be speaking at this year’s conference and represent leading professionals in their respective fields of expertise.

There are many opportunities to sponsor the conference including advertising in the Annual Conference Program. Sponsorship opportunities, registration, and hotel information is now available.  Be sure to contact the AWA office if you have any questions.

Our featured speaker this week is Philip M. Seng, Affiliate Professor, Colorado State University.
Philip M. Seng presided as the President and CEO of the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) for almost 30 years, where he oversaw worldwide activities in more than 100 countries. During his tenure, he provided direction for USMEF strategies and priorities in international programs, research, technical services, industry relations and global communications. Seng joined the USMEF staff as Asian Director in 1982, became Vice President of International Programs in 1988, and was named President and Chief Executive Officer in January 1990.

Seng is an authority on Japan’s complex distribution system and played a central role in the liberalization of the Japanese market and other countries throughout the world. His marketing strategies and approach to the Japanese market received critical acclaim in the international business community and served as a case study in the Harvard University Business School, where he has been a guest lecturer on several occasions.

Seng has also been active in a number of other organizations. He served four terms as President of the International Meat Secretariat. He also was President of the Japan-American Society in Colorado.

Seng has been recognized for being a leading voice and advocate for international meat trade over the last 35 years.  He was inducted into the inaugural class of the Meat Industry Hall of Fame in 2009 and was recognized by the National Provisioner as one of 25 industry icons who made a significant impact in the meat industry since 1991 in conjunction with its 125th anniversary.

In 2019, Seng joined the faculty of Colorado State University where his employ entails research, education, and outreach.
