VOL 2, NO 22
The AWA office will be closed this Monday (May 31) for Memorial Day so our employees can spend the holiday with their families. We appreciate your understanding and hope you have a safe, healthy, and happy Memorial Day!

“If you can’t measure it, you can’t improve it.” Peter Drucker
The foundation of performance programs starts with breeding and birth records, and then subsequently followed by those stages of the production cycle for traits important to profitability. The last few weeks and for the next several weeks the AWA office staff will be walking through the steps of entering performance data into the AWA’s data management system, DigitalBeef.

2021 is proving to be a banner year for the American Wagyu Association as several metrics continue to improve over previous years, including the reporting of performance data. Reporting of weaning weights and yearling weights are 132% and 109%, respectively, compared to reporting the first five months of 2020!

Additionally, through a partnership with Neogen, approximately 1,500 DNA samples for the AWA Carcass Project have been reported to the AWA so far this year and more are expected. These cattle are in the “pipeline” to have carcass data collected and reported to the AWA which will help build the foundation to compute carcass EPD.

Sales this spring have been excellent, the demand for Wagyu beef has never been better and there’s never been a better time to be a member of the American Wagyu Association.
