AWA Office Closed for Labor Day

The American Wagyu Association office will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, 2020 to allow staff to enjoy the Labor Day weekend with their families.

Annual General Membership Meeting and Conference Date Re-scheduled for October 29, 2020

We restructured this year to a virtual AGM and Conference because of COVID 19.  But we have lined up several speakers to give virtual presentations on topics regarding genetics, inbreeding and linebreeding, nutrition, management, and marketing of Wagyu cattle and beef.

Sponsorship opportunities for the 2020 AGM & Conference are now available. Your financial support of the AWA is an important part for the success of the annual conference and the Wagyu producers. Please review the attached flyer and contact the office if you have any questions.

Part 10: Dam Weight and Height

Collection of dam weight and height should be collected at the same time weaning weights on calves are collected. Mature cow size is useful to match biological type to the environment where those cows are expected to perform. Mature weight should be collected on an individual animal scale and should be recorded to the nearest pound. The weight should be collected on a high-quality digital or mechanical individual animal scale.

Mature height should be measured when the cow is standing on a flat surface with her hips level, and height is measured in inches. The measuring stick should be perpendicular to the ground with the height measured directly over the hooks.

Masters of Beef Advocacy

Masters of Beef Advocacy is your go-to program for training and resources to be a strong advocate for the beef community. This free, self-guided online course provides farmers, ranchers, service providers, consumers, and all members of the beef community the tools and resources to become a beef advocate and answer tough questions about beef and raising cattle.

The online lessons address environmental sustainability, beef nutrition, animal welfare and beef safety while taking advocates through the beef lifecycle, from pasture to plate. The course also offers historical context on the evolution of the U.S. beef industry from the time the first cattle were brought to North America to today.

Upon completion of five interactive online lessons, advocates will be equipped with the communication skills and information to be confident in sharing beef stories on social media and in our communities to help others better understand how cattle are raised and how beef belongs as part of healthy, sustainable diets.
