National Women's History Month
Each year, Americans observe National Women's History Month in March to commemorate and encourage the study, observance, and celebration of the vital role of women in American history. At the American Wagyu Association, we are proud of the women who make up much of our membership and serve in vital leadership roles of the American Wagyu Association.

A 2017 U.S. Department of Agriculture census revealed that 36% of the nation's farmers are women, and roughly 56% of all farms have at least one key, female decision-maker – that’s a stark contrast to previous decades.

Reminder to Renew Your AWA Membership
The American Wagyu Association is experiencing record growth of membership with 2021 setting records for new member applications, exceeding last year’s growth by 42% through the first two months and March looks to be the same. The first two weeks of March has seen new members already at the level of the previous three years through the end of the month.

This continued growth of membership is indicative of the enthusiasm for this incredible breed in America. There is an exciting opportunity to join other Wagyu breeders during this period of expansion which has never been greater! If you are considering joining other Wagyu members on this exciting journey be sure to contact the AWA office to learn more about the AWA.

For existing members, it is time to renew your membership before April 1, 2021 when a $25 late fee will apply with your renewal.

We look forward to celebrating our continued growth and success in Fort Collins, Colorado September 23-25, 2021 for the AWA Annual General Membership Meeting & Conference. Be sure to mark your calendar for this great event.
2021 Beef Improvement Federation Annual Research Symposium

The Beef Improvement Federation (BIF) is an organization dedicated to coordinating all segments of the beef industry — from researchers and producers to retailers — in an effort to improve the efficiency, profitability and sustainability of beef production. The organization was initiated almost 70 years ago to encourage the use of objective measurements to evaluate beef cattle. Continuing the tradition, BIF is now the clearinghouse for developing standardized programs and methodologies for recording of performance data for all traits, from birth weights to carcass traits. Its three-leaf-clover logo symbolizes the link between industry, extension, and research.

Each year the BIF symposium draws a large group of leading seedstock and commercial beef producers, academics, and allied industry partners. The attendance list is a “who’s who” of the beef value chain, offering great networking opportunities and conversations about the issues of the day. Program topics focus on how the beef industry can enhance value through genetic improvement across a range of attributes that affect the value chain.

The 2021 Symposium is scheduled for June 22-25, 2021, Iowa Events Center, Des Moines, Iowa. I will post more information regarding registration when it becomes available.
