Is Kobe beef the same as Wagyu Beef?

Kobe beef is beef that specifically comes from the Kobe Prefecture in Japan. Kobe beef is Wagyu, but not all Wagyu is Kobe beef.

How do I Renew my Membership?

Log into your DigitalBeef account. In the left hand menu click view my account, when the center screen changes in the membership area there will be a red renew button. If you don't see the renew membership button please call the office of the American Wagyu Association.

How do I become a Member of the American Wagyu Association?

Complete the Membership Application form (PART A, B, C & D) and return it with your payment to the American Wagyu Association. Membership with the American Wagyu Association, Inc. gives you access to the range of services that the association offers in commitment to its vision of stimulating the production and promotion of American Wagyu beef. There are four (4) membership categories to choose from, Full Membership, Associate Membership, Junior Membership, and International Membership. How do EPDs work?

Estimated Progeny Differences (EPDs) are an estimate of an animals genetic characteristics for various traits of economic value that will be passed on to offspring. This is done through statistical analysis of the animal's performance data submitted by producers to breed associations from an animal's actual performance, performance of progeny, performance of other relatives, and genomic data.

What is Complete Animal Reporting (CAR)?

Complete Animal Reporting (CAR) functions around the premise of the collection and reporting on an annual basis; the production history of every cow in the herd and performance of every calf in the herd raised through weaning.

What is Standard Herd Enrollment?

Members of the American Wagyu Association must choose between two registry programs they want to participate in; Standard Herd or Verified Herd. Members enrolled in the Standard Herd option benefit from registration of natural born calves born during the enrollment year at no additional cost and a lower fee for transfers while enrolled on the Standard Herd program. This is the American Wagyu Association's performance program.

What is Verified Herd Enrollment?

Members of the American Wagyu Association must choose between two registry programs they want to participate in; Standard Herd or Verified Herd. Members enrolled in the Verified Herd option do not pay an enrollment fee on active females. Rather, traditional registration fees apply based on the age of the animal to be registered. Expected Progeny Differences will not be published on animal’s bred and owned with this program.

What are the health benefits of Wagyu beef?

Health experts have discovered the mono-unsaturated to saturated fat ratio is higher in Wagyu than in other beef and, the saturated fat contained in Wagyu is different. Forty percent is in a version called stearic acid, which is regarded as having a minimal impact in raising cholesterol levels.

How do I submit carcass data to the American Wagyu Association?

Contact the office of the American Wagyu Association and ask to speak to the Director of Research, Education, and Programs. They will be happy to assist you with guidelines for the collection and reporting of valuable carcass data.
